For the final time in 2012 Virus Bulletin has published the results of their eminently respectable test series. The review is based on Microsoft’s new operating system Windows 8 Pro using 700,000 files belonging to normal programs and about 20,000 malicious samples no older than three weeks. 33 different security programs had to prove their detection rates without causing false positives.
Emsisoft Anti-Malware 7.0 detected 100% of all samples in the standard and the extended wildlist with both the on-demand and on-access scan! This is a perfect result, especially given the fact that not a single false positive occurred.
Therefore the Austrian-based program achieved the VB100 award, one of the most important honors in the world of security software.
The overall result for 2012 is very good for Emsisoft too, as you can see in the RAP chart below. The y-axis represents reactive detection, meaning new samples no older than 3 weeks. This is an indicator of how quickly a vendor creates new signatures. Proactive detection on the x-axis represents the amount of malware that is detected after 1 week without signature updates.
